Pennsylvania’s charter schools purpose is to provide a safe and high-quality education to students at a cost that’s lower than traditional public schools. On average, charter schools perform academically better than traditional public schools in which their students previously attended. Generally, students who enroll in charter schools are often academically two or three years below their grade level. It takes considerable work to make up for this missed time, but charter schools have proved that they can get the job done. We need to focus less on the how much funding goes to our schools, and more on the best interest of the students. Whether a child attends a charter school or a traditional public school, he or she deserves to have access to high-quality programs and services that will prepare them for a successful future. A public school that does not meet this goal, should refrain to prevent further academic loss to students.
